A paradise
The idea of paradise has been a significant one throughout history. Its significance is in its ability to make human existence meaningful and enduring despite the fact that it is inevitably transitory. Paradise is a place of absolute peace and prosperity. It is a place outside of normal historical time and therefore is not subject to disease, crime or death. It is also a place which is populated by youthful and healthy beings.
Paradise is described in a variety of ways, from the Garden of Eden of the Bible to the lush Pacific Ocean islands of novels and Gauguin's paintings. It can even be seen in the present thanks to the popularity of communes and the increasing interest in gardening and outdoor living. In fact the word "utopian" brings images of a paradise. Although not all utopias are based on religion however, they usually incorporate paradisial motifs and are intended to embody some of the characteristics of paradise in actual conditions.
The word"paradise" can have numerous meanings and all of them refer to an environment or state of great beauty and pleasure. It can also be an ideal location for a particular activity or pastime. For example golfers' paradise or an hummingbird’s paradise. In a religious context it can be a reference to heaven, which is the heaven where the righteous go after they die.
The word paradise has been used in a variety of languages, but its origins are in Avestan, an ancient Iranian language. The word is pairidaeza, or "walled enclosure," from the roots pairi, "around," and daeza, "wall." It was later included in the Hebrew and other Aramaic scriptures, such as paradeisos. It was later adapted to Greek and then into Greek, where it was renamed paradise.
In the Bible In the Bible, the Garden of Eden is paradise. It was a beautiful spot where the first couple lived, free of disease and death. The paradise was lost but they refused to obey God. In the future Bible prophecies, heaven is an area where the happy human race will live forever. The term "paradise" is used to describe an emotional or spiritual state that is full of joy and happiness.
